I am a stressed out person, trying to Fight The Frump!

As many of you know, I have highish blood pressure. My Dr. put me on a low dose medicine to help lower it, and also gave me a few tips to keep it low. One of the suggestions was to meditate. I know on some of my yoga DVD's they have a short section that includes a little meditation. And we have all heard of the stereotypical sitting cross-legged hands on knees saying "ohm, ohm, ohm". But what do you guys do to "meditate"? Do you take a long hot bath and concentrate on washing your stresses away? Do you make sure you take time out for yourself every day to just sit and think, even if it means locking yourself in the bathroom for 20 minutes? Do you practice yoga? I just need a few ideas on how to relieve the stress...I know some of you exercise for a certain amount of time each day......that is on my list of things to try out....just let me know how you keep stress out of your life on an everyday basis. Fussy doesn't have a FTF post today, due to a family emergency. Keep her family in your thoughts....and hopefully she'll be back next week!

Stress out of life? Is that possible? :-) Well I think the "how" changes (for me, anyway). Sometimes it's getting the hell out of my house (so I don't have to think about laundry, cleaning, cooking, and a million other to-do-list items) and just chillin' at a coffee shop for an hour.
Other times it's staying in and simply locking myself in a room and watching a movie that takes my mind away from the day-in and day-out pressures.
If neither of those work, a good stiff double-shot of whiskey should do it! :-)

I don't have any "one" thing I do, but I just try to make time to do something I like to do - read, take a bath (it's been a long time since I did that one!), watch one of my favorite TV shows (Project Runway anyone?) or just go lay on my bed and rest.

Alright, the excercise thing is a lie...well maybe. Depends on your perspective. Working out does make me feel better, but I don't think it is because I am working out. I think it is because the kids club at the gym is one of my childs favorite places to be. So...that gives me an hour plus minutes, where I am in the same place...but different place as my child, but I am having 'alone' time. Well, me, Steven Tyler, Bon Jovi, Melissa Etheridge,BuckCherry and a few others.
But generally (especially on weekends), I do enjoy a margarita and a deep breath. Excuse me now, I must go to the liquor store. :P

I think tonight I am going to combine all of your ideas into one:
I'm going to take a long hot bath, with the bathroom door locked...sip on some kind of alcoholic beverage, read a magazine that has been sitting here for days, and put on some soothing music.
Now, if only I could commit myself to doing that every day! (Or maybe just commit myself...that would take the stress out of life!) ;)

Shopping! Nothing makes me feel better than a cute pair of shoes! I only get them on sale, or then I just stress about the money I spent.

Exercise greatly reduces my stress, specifically my yoga and pilates classes. I haven't tried meditation per se but I would think "what works" would probably be different for everyone, depending on what relaxes you. The long bath sounds fabulous and, let's face it, the bathroom is just about the only place we as mothers can go without being interrupted!
