Growing Up

OK...so maybe I was too hasty in the last post....Lilly can get older...but she has to stop when she knows how to work the computer by herself. The last few nights Lilly and I have spent some time together playing games on the computer. She comes up to me and says "Max" indicating she wants to play "Max and Ruby" on NickJr.com. This "quality time" together consists of me playing the games...."Toy Bowling", "Find Max" and "Dress Up", while Lilly just sits on my lap, or on one of my legs, or tries to sit on the laptop and watches. Have you ever tried to use a laptop with a kid in the way? Not an easy task....I end up getting really frustrated and eventually telling her it is bedtime. So "quality time" turns into "frustration" which translates into "angry Mommy" and eventually "bedtime". Lilly can grow up long enough to learn to use the computer...so she can play "Max"...but then she has to stop. (Or maybe I will just get some "Max and Ruby" books...they are less frustrating!)

Oh my gosh,he'll be 5!

My son will be 5 in about a week. I didn't think anything of it, or the fact that we "signed up" for kindergarten on Friday, until today. In fact I didn't even think much about the fact that my friend and fellow blogger Katie blogged about signing her son up for kindergarten just days before. I think I commented about how mixed my emotions would be once he went to kindergarten, how much time I would have with my daughter yada, yada, yada. I LIED! I started thinking more about it today when I was among some friends that have kids a bit younger than my son, friends that have essentially watched him grow up just like I have theirs. I was asked a question about his upcoming birthday, and I just about lost it! I told them I had signed him up for kindergarten , and almost cried. Now every time I think about it...I just about lose my cool! My little 3lb 14oz baby is going to school. I don't think this should happen and nevermind that I have about 6 months to contemplate and to be ready for it...I just don't think kids should grow up! Also, just to let you know, by 21 month old will NOT be having a birthday this year....she will NOT be turning 2. She WILL be 1 year old FOREVER!!! PS Thanks for your Valentine Day comments...I think it is cool to know about other people's traditions, or even lack thereof!

Valentine's Day

So....I have been thinking about Valentine's Day, since it is coming up soon....and I am wondering how you celebrate, if at all? Some people I know just think of it as a holiday made up by card companies to make us spend money, other people just don't celebrate because they don't want someone else telling them when to let their sigificant other know they love them, and then there are some that go ALL out; roses, chocolate, jewlery etc. I think it is a great holiday, although not my favorite, to help get us out of the doldrums of winter (curse you snow!) It is fun for the kids to give Valentines to their friends, and to attend parties when they have been cooped up without anything to look forward to for months! We celebrate by getting Valentine gifts for the kids (I keep a tradition my Mom had, I leave the gifts on the doorstep, ring the doorbell and run back into the house by way of the garage) and usually by getting each other a little something. This year, we are actually going out to dinner to spend time together without the kids! (I suggested I cook something special, DH suggested we go out to dinner, I wholeheartedly agreed, less work for me!) How do you celebrate? Has anyone heard of the doorbell ditching tradition? Answer me dammit (just so I know someone is reading this!)

Updated Resolution

OK....so far so good on the New Year's Resolution about spending more time with friends outside of MOMS Club. So far, Mom is a happy camper (most of the time). Now I think it is time to extend the scope of that resolution to include the kids. I have spent a lot of time outside of MOMS Club hanging out with friends, and most of that was without the kids (Very, nice, but not very "Mommy" of me). I kinda feel like the kids have not benefited from my resolution much at all. Yes, I am happier when I get to chat with the girls, but that means they say at home quite a bit. SO...I resolve to spend more time with friends outside of MOMS Club activities, AS WELL AS have more "Playdates" for the kids. Let's see how it works out....I'll keep ya posted!

New Year's Resolutions

In the past I have made the same resolutions for the upcoming year: "Lose some weight, eat more vegetables, start exercising more", but where has that gotten me? Overweight because I get depressed over not eating more vegetables and not having the motivation to excercise. Year after year the vicious cycle runs. This year I reslove to make different resolutions. I have decided to spend more time with my friends. Yes, I do belong to a MOMS Club, but I very rarely get to attend most activities because of the times they are held. I enjoy the activities I attend, and I need to make an effort to attend more of them, BUT I also need to make the effort to call friends up and have them over for playdates and cocktails (or to go OUT for the cocktails). I find I am a happier person and a more patient Mom, if I spend time outside of MOMS Club events exploring my own interests. So that is how I am going to start 2008!

Let it Snow!

WOW! Today is the first day of December, and how fitting is it that our first HUGE snow storm of the year started today? We have many inches (don't know an exact stat), and it keeps falling! If I ever get dressed today, maybe I will get a picture on here. I was going to head out to the grocery store this morning, but the snow isn't letting up. This is one morning I especially wish I had a Starbucks in my kitchen! Let's hope it stops soon...AND that it will start up again Christmas Eve, so we can have a white Christmas!
