Wednesday's Wonderful Recipe

Since I have posted a dessert, and a main dish, today's recipe is an appetizer! I think I have brought this to at least one MOMS Club event....if not, I may just start bringing it everytime! The original recipe is from the Knorr Vegetable Soup package, but I added a little extra something, so I now call it my recipe! Spinach Dip 1 pkg. (10oz) frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained well 1 container (16oz) sour cream 1 cup mayonnaise 1 pkg. Knorr Vegetable recipe mix 1 can (8oz) water chestnuts, chopped 3 green onions, chopped 2 cups shredded Swiss cheese Combine all ingredients (except cheese) and chill for two hours. Right before serving mix in Swiss cheese. Serve with veggies or crackers or my favorite, tortilla chips!

Fight The Frump Friday....continued

Alright....this week's FTF is about taking care of yourself by keeping your hair maintained. Get it cut every 6 weeks or so to help it keep the shape/style you like. Make sure you go in often enough to keep the color fresh, and keep the roots from showing through.

I couldn't talk about it until today, since I haven't been true to my own advice.

Today, I FINALLY got my hair cut and streaked and styled and it feels great!!!!! I love the cut, love the color and don't feel so frumpy! Even in a ponytail my hair is cute and a bit bouncy.

So here is the before:
Tons of hair!!!
I forgot to have my Mom take one right before it was cut, so all I have is the pile of hair on the salon floor...SORRY!
And here is the after:

Un-Frumpy Anj!
What do you think...shorter, with blond highlights and some darker red....I don't think it is "frumpy" and I don't think it is considered a "Mom" cut. But tell me the truth...I can handle it!

Fight The Frump Friday

Fight The Frump Friday will be a little late today.....stay tuned......

Wednesday's Wonderful Recipe-Fettuccini with Ham and Mushrooms in a Rose Sauce

So here is Wednesday’s Recipe, it is easier to make than the name implies. I find my recipes from quite a few places, blogs, recipe web sites, and friends. This one was made by a friend for a luncheon, but she found it on allrecipes.com. All Recipes is a great place to find a variety of recipes, including reviews and variations. My favorite feature is the “ingredient search”. You can type in any ingredient you have, AND even type in ingredients you don’t have (or that your husband won’t eat), and it will come up with a recipe match. It has saved us from the same old boring recipes quite a few times! So make Fettuccini with Ham and Mushroom Rose Sauce, (the picture with the recipe, isn't quite right, so don't go by that pic please!)and enjoy! (I make two batches ½ ham and mushroom, ½ just ham…DH doesn’t eat mushrooms, poor guy!)

Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom....MOM!

That is all I have heard these last few days.......after every "Mom" I say "What?" and I get "Mom" right back. It is getting really, really annoying, and I am not sure how to combat it. I can't just ignore her.....she only gets louder. I shout "WHAT! I AM RIGHT HERE!", and it makes her cry. Maybe I just need to run away...yeah that's it....I will run away and hide in the bathroom for a few hours (OK...minutes). But then, I will get the knocking on the door and the little fingers under the door, and eventually "bubba" will come to find me and he will push the door open (I really need to fix that lock). UGH! I guess she is just trying to make sure I know I am "Mom" and not actually a real person.

Fight The Frump Friday-Sunglasses as a hair accessory

Once again, we try to Fight The Frump. This week it will be short. Sunglasses are one of the greatest accessories of all time! Not only are they great at helping us fight sun damage (wear them whenever you are in the sun!) but they are great at holding your hair out of your face. It almost doesn't matter how drap your hair looks, as long as you slide your groovy glasses up on top of your head.....your hair has instant sass. So go to it...buy some new sunglasses to use as a hair accessory! (I know this is being posted early...don't know if I will get the chance to post tomorrow, I've got a busy day ahead!)

Correction

OK...I guess I should have checked my poll after the voting closed. Two of you voted for me to have a regular Wednesday post, not just 1. I stand corrected and am deeply sorry for any hurt I may have caused whichever person voted along with Allison (Who was it anyway? Katie did you get a vote in b-4 it closed, or Allison, did you vote again?)

Wednesday's Wonderful Recipe

Allison voted for me to have a regular post on Wednesday's. I know every one of you wanted to vote, but either just didn't have the time, OR didn't have the computer capabilities (welcome back Katie!) I had a lot of thoughts as to what my regular Wednesday post should be: "Wordless Wednesday" is a popular one around the blogosphere; I even thought about "Weird Wednesday", to bring you some of the weird news stories around the world, but I have settled on "Wednesday's Wonderful Recipe", and that is mostly because of a comment Allison made recently, about me finding good, fun recipes (or something like that....I don't remember the exact words OK?) So here is the first recipe, and because I cannot take pictures anything like Ree of Pioneer Woman Fame, most of the time there won't be pictures of the food. If you have a problem with it, just don't read my blog on Wednesday then! Pear Cake 1 yellow cake mix 2 cans pears (15oz) in light syrup (reserve juice from 1 can) 2 eggs Grease and flour 9x13 or bundt pan. Dice pears. Add pear juice eggs and cake mix to meduim bowl. Mix for 30 seconds on low, 4 minutes on high. Fold in diced pears. Pour into prepared pan and bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean. Let cake cool, then frost with vanilla or cream cheese frosting (9x13) OR use Vanilla Glaze on bundt cake. Thanks to Leah for the original recipe (I have no idea where she got it) but I modified it a bit to make the pears more noticable! Let me know what you think of the new Wednesday postings! (And if you can come up with a better name for them...let me know, I am open to anything...welll, almost!)

Help!

This could be a "FTF" post, but since I have problems with this area, I decided to ask for your help (especially from those of you that have almost flawless skin). I have been breaking out so badly lately, that don't know what to do. I will admit, I am a picker and a squeezer, anything to get the blemish off of my face. Of course, we all know that doesn't work. So my question to you is: What do you use to keep your skin clear?

Fight The Frump Friday

OK...so I was having a hard time deciding what to write about today. It was a hard morning, and now that I am home for a while, I am feeling frumpy. As I write I am wearing a "track suit" and flip flops (the track suit is matching, does that count as "unfrumpy"?) How can I give advice on "Fighting the Frump" when I am frumpy right now? Oh...I've got it! Jewlery! Even though I am in comfy clothes, I am still wearing some jewlery! I have my standard earrings on: cute sliver hoops that are small enough kids fingers can't get in to rip them out; a simple silver bracelet and of course, my wedding ring (that almost never comes off) and a right hand ring. So...fight the frump with jewlery that makes you feel "made up" even if you aren't. Keep it simple, jazz it up, go all out gaudy if you feel like it! But enjoy the wonders of jewlery!

Fight The Frump Friday

Time for another edition of Fight The Frump Friday! I try (try being the key word) to wear clothes that fit my body type. As you all know, I am not a size 6 (nor am I a size 12 for that matter....but whatever). Sometimes I have a hard time fitting into the largest sizes of clothes the Junior's, or even Misses' section has to offer, so I am forced to shop in the Women's section. What I want to know is "Who designs those clothes?" I can guarantee you it isn't someone who actually wear them! I do not want to wear a tent that looks like the fabric came from my Grandma's couch cushions. Also, not ALL "plus sized" women have a big belly. I am pretty proportioned for my size, and don't like wearing some of the shirts from the higher end "plus size" store, since the shirts have extra fabric around the belly area, and they make me look larger than I am in that spot, or even pregnant! (OK...that was my rant!) Anyway....wear clothes that make you feel good about yourself, and that fit your body type. Don't worry about the difference in sizes that you may have to wear to make your outfit look great on you! (I wear one size in tops/shirts and another in pants/bottoms, I blame the DDD girls for that one!) Pick up a shirt you like, and even if it looks "boxy" try it on! You never know what it will look like on, it might just hug you in all the right places. AND I know that some of you don't have the same problem I do, ie. trying to find larger clothing that isn't ugly, but I do know you have some of your own hang ups with clothes....so check this website out if you want some guidance!

Salt Lake City Weekly "Best Of"

The local weekly indie paper, "City Weekly", does a "Best Of" issue each year. It is a pretty big deal, since the word gets out there about some local restaurants, shops, writers and even bloggers. Speaking of bloggers: dooce won best blogger of 2008. dooce rocks! She was on a local TV station today, that highlights the "Best Of" winners once a week. It was soooo cool to see her on TV, and realize her southern accent is still intact even after living in Utah for a while. I can't set up a link to the station's video segment, but if you go to www.myfoxutah.com and search for Heather Armstrong (aka dooce), you can find a "side bar" of segments of today's show. Her segment is the third one down (Big Budah is near a Lonley Planet sign). I wish I could find the story she is referring to in her blog archives, but I must not be searching correctly. If I evenutally find it, I will let you know! BTW...thanks for Katie for telling me about dooce. I was totally missing out!

Mailman

Colin is playing a "game" where is is the mailman. He just came in my room, and gave me some "mail". It consists of a yellow ball, a few play tools, a couple of matchbox cars and a plastic cactus. I graciously said "Thank You!" and then asked if I could mail the stuff to someone else. The quick reply? "No! I made a sign that says 'You cannot give this stuff back' and I put it up in the kitchen, but it is invisible. You can't see it." Then he walked away. I laughed so hard! He was pretty quick on his feet with that response!

April Fools Day

Happy April Fools Day! I usually don't play any tricks or pranks on April 1st, I'm not clever enough to think of any to "get" my hubby with. (The "I'm pregnant!" one doesn't work....he knows me too well!) But this year Colin is old enough to understand what jokes are, and to even be able to play some himself. Sooo....yesterday as I was folding laundry, I switched the guy's underwear. I put Colin's in DH's drawer and vice versa. I had to be pretty sneaky since DH started helping me fold once he got home. This morning I was 1/2 asleep when DH opened a drawer in his dresser I said "April Fools!" and he said "What?" I sat up and realized he had opened his t-shirt drawer first. Dang! That didn't work! I explained my "prank" and he thought it was a bit funny, and wanted to be here when Colin opened his drawer. (He was a little worried that Colin would unknowingly put them on!) Later in the morning, I keept trying to get Colin to get dressed. I didn't have any place I wanted to go, and I think he sensed that. It was so hard to get him to start getting dressed! He finally decided to get dressed in play clothes! (Score one for Mom!) I reminded him to change his underwear, and as he blindly grabbed a HUGE (well, HUGE to him) pair out of his drawer, I tried so hard not to laugh. Then he held them up to himself and said "Huh? What is this Mom?" He almost put them on over the ones he was already wearing. I had to tell him it was April Fools Day, and that it was a joke. I didn't think he thought it was all that funny, until he told EVERYONE that came to our house today "Guess what Mom did to me today?" It was great! Do any of you have some memorable April Fools Pranks? Either ones that have been played on you, or that you have played on anyone?
